The Flesh Machines - 2005

Los Angeles CA

Transport Gallery Presents
"The Flesh Machines"

LA's Hottest New Band of Painters
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 8th, 2005
Exhibition runs through February 19th, 2005

LA's hottest new rock band has arrived. The Flesh Machines have come to rejuvenate the desiccated husk of rock n roll. Four of the city's premier talents, each with over 15 years experience in the art world, present a fresh, bold look at contemporary, figurative painting.

Helen Garber kicks opens the door to the seedy underbelly of modern life. Middle American tragedies are presented as amazing glossy pin ups, and the plight of contemporary man is rendered through the style of the Old Masters. These sometimes challenging works have been prominently featured in such publications as The New York Times, Spin Magazine, and Juxtapoz. http://www.helengarber.com

Luis Sanchez provides a range of works made from fresco, acrylic paint and physical sculpting that gives his images the look and feel of having been stolen from an aged billboard or subway wall. He is a master of texture as well as the human form. http://www.luissanchezgallery.com

Nate Seubert compels us with a look at the sarcastically macabre, on uniquely made trapezoidal canvases that are his trademark. His works span the gaps of social and political commentary. Deformed figures, plugged into the computer age, wander about this awkward, colorful world. http://www.n8-zilla.com/

David Wilson takes us to a saturated landscape of imagery, symbolism, & color. Gods and heroes find their shape within modern culture by crossing over from myth to reality. The balance of delicate brushwork and bold imagery make his work both soothing and striking, challenging the audience to enter and ignite their own myths in this world.http://www.davidwilsonlives.com
